How To Make $500 A Month As A Writer

Writing is not easy and requires putting in a lot of effort and dedication. It takes a lot of time researching, writing, and improving your writing skills. As for me, it hasn’t been easy either, I started writing and publishing content on different platforms in august of 2017, this now marks my four years of being a freelance writer. At this point I can make more than $500 a month just writing content for various people and the following are the steps that I took to reach this level.

1. PUBLISHING MY CONTENT ON MEDIUM

Medium is a platform where writers can publish their content and earn a commission when a paid reader reads your content. When you are starting out as a write, probably you don’t have any money to invest in host your website, therefore this platform will be your starting point. Probably it’s not an instant success but you will need to continuously publish hundreds of articles a month as one day you will start reaping from the effort.

2. LAUNCHING A WEBSITE

As a writer, it is important to have a portfolio where clients can see your published content and there is no better place than on your personal website. A website will act as both the place for showcasing your talent as well as a place to help you improve your writing as readers criticize your writing. Before I had a blog website, it was always hard for me to convince clients on my abilities as a writer and if I landed a Gig, it was at a very low price as low as $1 per article. Therefore, I encourage anyone who is already an established writer and new writers to invest some money in a website.

3. GUEST BLOGGING

Guest blogging is when you write content for already established blog websites in return you may earn a commission or writing credit which will help skyrocket your writing business. When you write content for already established blog websites such as Forbes, you can become recognized by different readers who can turn into clients, even if they don’t purchase any service from you provided you have a website where you publish content which is monetized with Google ad sense, you will still earn money per thousand ad views displayed on your website when they visit your blog site.

4. HAVING PRESENCE ON FREELANCING PLATFORMS

Freelancing platforms are places and websites where you can apply for jobs and earn an income from the work you complete. As a writer, these platforms will help you apply for writing jobs and eventually land client. It is important to note that it is not free to apply for jobs on most of these platforms, it is therefore important to make sure you write your best proposal each time. When you are starting out, make sure you apply to only writing jobs that you can manage to deliver the satisfaction of your client, as this will improve your ratings and probably help you in landing more and more clients. There is nothing more satisfying than having a long-term contract with clients. As for me, I have at most signed at least three-to-four-year contracts with my client which guarantees me with an income as long I produce the work. Most writer don’t like tying themselves into long term contracts as they love their freedom to only work when they want, but if you are looking for consistent income, this is the way to go. I encourage new writers to try and negotiate long term deals with every client you land as it will help you with a consistent stream of income and probably earn thousands of dollars a month.

I hope this article will help you in your journey as a freelance writer and make more than $500 every month. It is not an easy journey but if you put handwork and focus, you will achieve your dreams. If you have questions regarding the topic, I would be glad to respond to your comments.
