The Durham Inspired Black Heritage Scholarships were launched in 2021 to support two UK Black Heritage Students of African, Caribbean, Dual, or Mixed heritage (to include Black African, Black Caribbean or Other Black background) to pursue undergraduate study at Durham University. The scholarships represent a key initiative within a broader programme of Durham Inspired access scholarships supported by philanthropic funds. To apply for this scholarship, use this

Amount £4,000 per academic year
Year of Entry Applicants commencing in October 2022

Level of study Undergraduate
Mode of study Full time or part time (pro rata)
Programmes All undergraduate programmes
Duration The length of your undergraduate programme for a maximum of 4 years

Eligibility

The applicant should:

  • be of Black Heritage – African, Caribbean, Dual or Mixed Heritage  (to include Black African, Black Caribbean or Other Black background)
  • have been assessed as home fee status
  • have a household income below £42,875.00 as determined by Student Finance England

How to apply

  1. Apply for a course

    Submit an academic application to Durham University via UCAS for an available programme of study.

    Submit an application to UCAS 

  2. Character reference

    A character reference from one of your teachers in support of your scholarship application to be sent by email to scholarship.application@durham.ac.uk. Please ensure your referee submits the reference on letter headed paper which contains:

    • their name
    • position
    • contact details
    • the name of the scholarship
    • your full name

    Submit a character reference 

  3. Complete a scholarship application

    A scholarship application including a personal statement of no more than 4,000 characters describing:

    • Your financial circumstances
    • How the scholarship would help you to study at Durham University
    • Why you want to study at Durham University.

    Application deadline

    30th June 2022.
