Blogs and websites are two different things; however, they are intertwined as they can be mistaken as the same thing as they are both internet based.
What is The Difference Between a Blog and a Website?
A blog can be described as a site where people write their opinions on a subject matter. It also allows people to contribute on a given subject matter at hand. A blog is usually run by the owner where different subjects are categorized in no particular order of topics. In this case, the post on the blogs appears in order of most recent and it usually has comment section where the blog visitors can make their contribution to agree or disagree. Blogs gets updated frequently with new posts and contents.
A website according to Oxford dictionary is a set of related web pages located under a single domain name, typically produced by a single person or domain. However, this is run through a secured LAN (Local Area Network).
Website has different types, to mention a few like, Organizational website, E-commerce website, News website, Entertainment website. I will go on and throw more lights on them to explain what each of these websites entails. It is usually built for a purpose, with main aim being providing information to its visitors. There are so many ways one can easily know a website such as customer’s feedbacks and reviews, the company Terms and conditions, the company’ FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions), and also the Get In Touch Section, more like a quick form to fill for a call back from the company. All these are ways to differentiate a website from a blog.
Organisational website: This type of website is dedicated to the organization, there you can their mission and vision, and everything about the organization is well detailed for the general public who might need to know more about the organization and what they represent and stand for.
E-Commerce website: This website is specially built for shopping and making online buying and selling. It is good for SME as they have their own shopping carts, and have different currencies you can pay in. Example of this is Shopify, it has made things easier for some online small business. An e-commerce store like Vinneltech.Store is doing amazing and ground-breaking things in this e-commerce business.
News website: In this type of website, is where you will see breaking news, trending media topics on politics, health, etc.
Entertainment website: Entertainment website has contents that are currently happenings around the world, you can see news about celebrity marriages, what they have been up to, newly music videos of them or newly achieved milestones.
Furthermore, blogsite is usually used by the owners to write articles, review products by writing their views and opinions on different subject matter and this usually appears in reverse chronological order, in other words the most recent post by the blog owner appear first, while the older posts stay at the bottom whenever you open the blog. I will show you in a tabular form below the differences between these two.
Blogs Website
You can subscribe to blog newsletter | No subscription required |
Updating of contents on a daily basis | Not updated on regular basis (only when need be) |
Comment section is usually enabled | Not always possible |
Posts are made in chronological order | No special arrangement on the website |
Blog needs constant contents and post to grow | Does not need anything. Once the website is built, that’s it |
Mode of writing/entries is informal | Highly formal and professional |
Having stated few differences above the difference between blog and website, we tend to run into blogs or website when one just comes on the internet. Oftentimes, we come across so many blogs within few minutes intervals while surfing the net.
The reason for this is not far-fetched, this is because blogs thrive and grow on new contents. In order words, the more frequently you make posts, the more traffic you generate to your blog and this traffic it generates is what makes the blog what it is as you can generate revenue from how much traffic you have on your blog. Bear in mind that for the fact that it is a blog, does not mean you can write loads of meaningless articles and upload.
The quality of your posts is what differentiates you from others and having to update more frequently with new articles, or any subject matter is what is also a great thing. Because blog posts are archived by the date they were written by the author, this makes it easier for people to know when last a post was made on the blog, whether it is active or inactive blogs. One good thing about blogs, is that it gives room for people to voice their opinion, make their individual contribution through a comment section box at the bottom of every blog posts. This is different from one website, once a website has been developed and every necessary information added to it, that’s it, it is done and dusted, except the website needs updating about an information. When you go to some website, you can have a thorough look around on the site, you will see where it tells you “this website was last updated on a particular date” So website does not need as much attention as blogs.

Blogs which is informal in nature can have so many writers contributing to the blog on different topics ranging from relationship, marriage, health, politics etc. It is all down to the blog owner what they actually want to feature on their blogs. As they can hire the services of writers in order to keep blog active and educative. It is one thing to have a blog, and it is another thing to update it regularly with useful tips and current subject matters, unlike a website that does not need either of these to stay active.
I hope this clears the confusion on the difference between a blog and a website, please do share your views on this and let us know how helpful this article was to you.
